11:09 pm - Saturday was a beach day
I don't know about you all, but I had a lot of fun at the beach yesterday. We went to Coney Island--sunbathed, swam (in the un-gross part of the water), had corn-dogs and other delightfully greasy board-walk foods, got cat-called by sleazy old men, and took a walk through Astroland. The heat actually made for a great beach day, especially with all of the vendors selling Coronas (said: CAH-RO-NA, with a rolled "r"), beaded necklaces, tequila shots, churros, and junk foods. Ladies in swimsuit thongs and attractive gay men sunned themselves, while a pretty middle-aged woman with her 11 year-old daughter extolled the virtues of one vendor's tequila to us, "I haven't taken shots in years, but you guys have to try this. It goes down real smooth. It's great." If it weren't for the Brooklyn skyline, it could almost have been a different country. Lauren and I even managed to find a patch of water that, because of the rock jetty in the area, had less trash and seaweed floating around than the rest of the beach. We bobbed in the water for a bit, and then, worrying that the lifeguards by our bags were probably not keeping an eye on them, we returned and headed over to the boardwalk. We topped off the day with a trip to Ryan's Brooklyn pad and hung around with him, his flatmate/best friend, and said best friend's sister. Mmm...pizza and rum punch. A fun time had by all. Too bad not everyone could make it. Hope you guys can join in next time.
